| Here is something you may not know: when you drive a Jeep, you
become part of a cool club. Well, it's not that exclusive and it seemed
to only happen to me when I lived in California. People driving Jeeps
would honk at to other people driving Jeeps. No, seriously. I have
since moved from there and no long get waved to, but I was a big thing
on the west coast. Jeeps are very useful vehicles. They were built in the 1940's for the US military and have now become a part of American society with 7 different models. Here is a list of the different Jeep gas mileage trim levels: 2010 Chrysler Jeep Commander The Commander with the big 8 cylinder engine is going to come in at 13 city and 19 on the highway. The more efficient V6 gets a respectable 15/20. 2010 Chrysler Jeep Compass All Compass models come with a 4 cylinder engine. The 5 speed MT model has an EPA rating of 23/28. The 5 speed automatic gets 21 in the city and 25 on the highway. The 6 cylinder automatic model is rated at 16/21. There are two V8 option on the Grand Cherokee: one has MDS that shuts down 4 cylinders when you don't need them to get you 13/19 and the big HEMI version that gets you a not so great 11/16. Chrysler's 2010 Jeep Liberty The Liberty comes with one engine option that gets 16/22. Chrysler's 2010 Jeep Patriot You actually get three different engine options for 2010: a small 2L model gets you 23/27/; a 5 speed manual will get you 23/28 and the 5 speed automatic gets an EPA rating of 21 in the city and 25 on the highway. The 2010 Chrysler Jeep Wrangler V6 5 speed MT 15/19 V6 5 speed AT 15/19 2010 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited This better equipped Wrangler has a V6 and comes with a 15/20 rating whether you get the automatic or manual transmission. I want the best fuel efficiency from my Jeep. What do I do? a) Chose 2WD or don't run the Jeep in 4wd when it's not necessary b) A 4cylinder is going to get better fuel economy than a V6 and both will do better than a V8. Unless you need the power for towing or something like that, stick with the smaller engine if you are worried about fuel economy. c) Try not running the air in your Jeep. You have probably heard this, but he air conditioning is about ass big a gas sucker that you have in your Jeep. If you can go without it, it may save you a few bucks. I like my Jeep, but I am definitely getting tired of the gas mileage I get. I might have to go with a sedan or hybrid for my next vehicle. Bill has a lot more free stuff at his Car Comparison website. What is cool is that the it is all free and talks about topics like the Toyota Camry hybrid gas mileage. |
