Web Site Design and Hosting

If you are starting and online business, reliable web hosting is one of the things you are going to have to have. Companies like Bluehost, Hostgator, and Dreamhost will usually do the trick for most web businesses, but make sure they can handle the 6 things below.

1. Website = Face of the Business -- Don't get caught up in all the bells and whistles. Make sure it looks professional, but don't get too carried away. You don't want to distract your visitor from the reason they came there in the first place.

2. It has got to be easy to get around. -- Seriously, keep it simple. You can't have people spending more than a couple of seconds trying to find what they are looking for. It will kill your business and the amount of time someone spends on your site.

3. Easy on the Pictures, my friend -- Not everyone has the super-duper broadband connection that you have. People that don't have it will have a problem loading your page that has 72 pictures on it. Cut it to 1 or 2 that are most important and make sure they are shrunk down to the proper size.

4. 4 sentences or less = Easy to Read -- Short sentences are just naturally easier to read. Again, it's about making your visitors experience more pleasurable. Break up the long paragraphs.

5. The site needs to work in both Firefox and Internet Explorer -- Their are others for sure, but these seem to be the most popular one's at the moment. You are going to want to make sure that your site works the same in both. Go to w3.org and double check.

6. Don't fall in love with scripts -- I would say just stay away from them all together. They slow the loading of your site way, way down. Remember, keep things very simple. You don't always need all the fancy flashing lights. Let people find what they are looking for.

This is setting up your page properly 101. Don't discount these 6 things. hey alone will make your life a lot easier when it comes to the success of your website.
